We also heard this incessant peeping coming from somewhere around the yurt. Much to our delight we found out that it was coming from a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker's nest that was only about 20 ft from the front door! Now I'm sure some folks would hate to constantly hear little baby birds belly-aching for food but we loved it! And the adult Sapsuckers were very tolerant of us standing nearby to take photos.
The 160 acre property is about 20 minutes outside of Bemidji and offered a real "up north" and off-grid experience. While you could still kind of hear the road noise, the yurt was situated maybe 1/2 mile into the woods down a narrow drive through a yard filled with art.
They advertise the property as an active artist's residence that is sometimes used as an artist's retreat. There many sculptures and fun old cars stashed all over the property. They also had a firepit right outside the yurt and also a pretty little pond decorated with multiple art pieces just outside their main residence where you could wander.
"Please be aware that this is a place where you will hear owls at night in the night , see deer in the woods , perhaps have a raccoon visit . Nothing dangerous , but this is not for "posh and fussy" types , and we will not hold "scaredy-cat" types' hands . We are rural people with gardens , bees and an artist studio for metal work . Yes , there can be mosquitoes in the summer , but you do not travel far from yurt to screen porch for meals and to read."
