While traveling back from our Off-Road Adventure Day where we got to "play" with our Jeep, we decided to take some time and explore a few key spots along the St. Croix River Valley as part of our Journey Minnesota project. After stopping at the Franconia Sculpture Park, we explored the Brown's Creek State Trail.
Along the way home, we did stop in to a couple of the state parks along the way to grab the State Park and Trails "Call of the Wildflowers" adventure caches and pick up our wildflower cards. Interstate State Park, William O'Brien State Park and Brown's Creek State Trail. In previous MN State Park geocaching adventures, we had never logged a find on one of the state trails. Maybe the trails are a new thing this year, I'm not 100% sure, but the Brown's Creek State Trail geocache was well worth the stop!
Where we ended up parking was about 1/2 mile away from the geocache and well worth the walk. Built on an old railway, this trail is newly paved and perfect for walking, running, biking and rollerblading. It is 5.9 miles long and connects the Gateway State Trail in the city of Grant to the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway in Stillwater.
But the best part of this geocache is the view! Just beyond the fence is a creek paralleling the trail and over that trail is the remains of an old stone arch bridge. I've seen it noted a few times that this is the oldest stone arch bridge still standing in Minnesota.
Plus there were these two random beautiful flowers blooming along the trail. I don't know if someone planted them there or they really were just wild but amongst nothing but solid green wild grass, we found this:
